Take the PCOS Survey

Take survey: bit.ly/pcos-patient-survey Did you know that Polycystic Ovary Syndrome aka Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (‪PCOS‬) was first called Stein-Leventhal syndrome, named after the gynecologists who described the association between "cysts" and irregular periods in 1935? Since then, scientists have found that other symptoms such as irregular menstrual cycles, high androgens and insulin resistance (which still isn't a part of the diagnostic criteria) are more consistent with the disorder than these immature follicles that Stein and Leventhal called cysts. Not everyone with these polycystic ovaries have PCOS and vice versa. There is currently a movement by international researchers and clinicians to change the name from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome to something else that is more reflective of what is now known about the disorder. The thought is that changing the name would cause less confusion and allow researchers to get funded to study other aspects of PCOS besides reproductive issues. There are many who agree with this, others who are against changing the name, and others who simply want a cure. Regardless of what side you are on, the bottom line: PCOS Challenge wants patients to have a say in the future direction of this already neglected disorder. Please take the following survey to give your input. How do you think a name change would impact the current PCOS Awareness Movement? What do you think the name should be if it is changed? How do you think it will impact the future for diagnosis and treatment? What would you like to see researched? Take survey: bit.ly/pcos-patient-survey
